The tool is initially available as a research preview through OpenAI's API for developers and requires a ChatGPT Pro subscription ($200/month) for access. Operator is designed to complete tasks on a computer without human assistance, first announced in November 2024.

Key Capabilities:

  • Autonomous browser navigation and control
  • Task completion without human intervention
  • Integration via API for developer access
  • Research preview status with planned wider rollout
